The Solar System Exploration Data Services Office was formed in January 2005, as part of the Goddard transformation. The new office is Code 690.1, and is part of the Solar System Exploration Division in the Sciences and Exploration Directorate.
The office is composed of the NASA Space Science Data Coordinated Archive and the Crustal Dynamics Data Information System. A third group, the project management for the Planetary Data System was added to the office in spring 2005. Amongst the three groups are six civil servants and 30 contractors with a mix of talents in astrophysics, computer science, planetary science and space physics.
