Research Interests
- Dr. Thieman carries on research in the areas of planetary radio
astronomy and magnetospheric physics. Nonthermal radio noise is
generated by Jupiter and several other planets at frequencies from a few
kilohertz to thousands of megahertz. He has published papers on the
nature of the fine structure of the emission at decameter, hectometer,
and kilometer wavelengths. He has also investigated the properties of
the currents of electrons and positively charged ions which power the
Earth's aurora as well as the auroral kilometric radio emission.
